Dear friends,
Big shock to hear about Michaels death. We had quite long chat late Summer last year, he was very much willing to join us for NoMe. Very very sorry.
Concerning covid situation in Estonia at the moment, it’s getting pretty critical these weeks – we have 2nd highest infection numbers in EU (14 day average 1153 per 100,000 population) and it seems to get worse during next 2-3 weeks. Hospitals are almost at their full capacity.
First wave we survived pretty smoothly and despite of low or moderate restrictions pandemia was under control until December. Surprisingly, even lower infection and death figures than in Latvia and Lithuania who were almost closed same time. But as nearly everything was open during Christmas rush, no surprise that infection figures started to go up. In January, in Tallinn and Eastern Estonia as the most affected regions new restrictions were introduced, but… as rest of Estonia was still open, school holidays started and Government was changed, 2-3 weeks in covid fight was lost and now we are where we are.
Still long way until May and if people behave reasonably and vaccine will be supplied in time, we can be in safer stage then. Let’s face the figures in May and make final decision then. Though, I’m not too optimistic that pandemia will be handled in all countries in 3 month time and everyone can get in and out without quarantine. Time will tell.
Stay safe, hope to see you all in good mood and healthy, whenever we’ll have chance to meet.
Regards
Vaho
